ABOUT US

BillOlmstead_2017.jpg

Bill Olmstead is a cartoonist, animator, and writer who ponders the greater philosophical questions such as ... well, then again, maybe not so much. Working as a cartoonist and animator, he has illustrated and animated dozens of characters for comics, edutainment software and computer games.

He originally hails from New Hampshire and began his career as a cartoonist after moving to Los Angeles where he created a daily comic strip that ran in a major metropolitan newspaper for a couple of years. He later made a move to Seattle to work as an animator.

For years the stories in his first collection of very short stories were germinating in notebooks and drafts. Upon returning to Los Angeles after more than a decade in the Northwest, Olmstead set about bringing them to fruition, publishing several in venues like Café Irreal, Everyday Fiction, and Nomos Review. They are now assembled in the book Narratives in Pill Form.

His latest projects include the weekly cartoon cartoon panel "Rubber Tuba" which appears online every Tuesday, currently on his Instagram and Facebook pages along with this web site. He is also working on a long form comic.

Olmstead's diverse areas of residence have uniquely impacted his voice and vision: the dry wit and sarcasm of New England; the lotus-eater mythology of L.A.; and the quirkiness of the majestic Northwest. Not to mention the elan and humor of New York City where he spent time as a kid and returns to as often as possible.

Olmstead currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, the noted jazz vocalist Janis Mann, and their cats Franklin and ZuZu.
